One fluid ounce is a small pour, so skip the measuring cups and grab a tablespoon: two level tablespoons hold exactly 1 fl oz. If your spoons are in the dishwasher, six teaspoons do the same job.

Many bar jiggers have a 1 fl oz side, and metric labels usually round 1 fl oz to 30 mL (the exact figure is 29.6 mL). That rounding makes no difference in a sauce or a dressing.

Be careful with recipes that list "1 oz" of a solid such as chocolate or cheese. That is 1 oz by weight, which only a scale can measure reliably. Butter is the friendly exception: 1 oz (weight) of butter is 2 Tbsp, marked right on the wrapper. More on that in dry vs. liquid ounces.

Questions

Is 1 oz the same as 1/8 cup?

Yes. 1 fl oz is exactly 1/8 cup, which is 2 tablespoons.

How many mL is 1 fl oz?

1 US fl oz is 29.57 mL. Labels and medicine cups usually round it to 30 mL.

How do I measure 1 oz without a jigger?

Use 2 level tablespoons of liquid. For a solid listed in ounces, weigh it instead, since the spoon only measures volume.
