Other cup standards
US cups: 1 · nutrition-label cups (240 mL): 0.986 · metric cups (250 mL): 0.946 · UK fluid ounces: 8.33
Divide fluid ounces by 8 to get US cups: 4 fl oz is 1/2 cup, 12 fl oz is 1 1/2 cups and 32 fl oz is 4 cups. That works for anything sold or measured by volume, such as a bottle of water, a carton of milk or a can of soda.
Many grocery ounces are weight, though. Cans of vegetables, tubs of yogurt and bags of chocolate chips carry a net weight, and how many cups they fill depends on the food. When the label says "net wt," treat the chart below as volume only and check the page for that package, such as the 5.3 oz yogurt cup or the 28 oz can.

Fluid ounces or net weight: how to tell
- "fl oz" on the label: volume, so the chart below applies directly.
- "Net wt" with oz and g: weight, so the cup amount depends on the food.
- Liquids such as milk, juice and oil are usually labeled in fl oz; canned and dry foods usually by net weight.
Common bottle and can sizes
A standard soda can is 12 fl oz, or 1 1/2 cups (12 oz to cups). The common 16.9 fl oz (500 mL) water bottle holds a little over 2 cups (16.9 oz to cups). A 64 fl oz bottle of juice holds 8 cups, which is half a gallon (64 oz to cups).
